Le Baratin was built far from fashion, on a quiet Belleville street. The dining room, the books, the counter, the chalkboard and the bottles tell the story of a lived-in house. People come for the food, the wine, and an atmosphere that has become rare: a true neighbourhood bistro whose reputation has long reached beyond Paris.

Raquel Carena cooks the way she thinks: with precision, intuition and freedom. Born in Argentina, she has shaped at Le Baratin a deeply personal French bistro cuisine — attentive to seasons, forgotten cuts, sauces, textures and everything that makes a plate feel true.
The chalkboard can be delicate or rough-edged, familiar or unexpected, but it never chases effect for effect's sake.
03
At Le Baratin, the menu never stands still. It follows produce, seasons, deliveries and the mood of the day. Offal, fish, meat, vegetables, broths, sauces and simple bistro desserts may follow one another on the board, with the same search for taste and accuracy.
The chalkboard changes with produce, seasons and the kitchen's inspiration.

At Le Baratin, wine is not an accessory. For decades, Philippe Pinoteau has built a personal cellar focused on growers, living bottles and domaines defended with conviction. The selection is discovered in conversation — according to taste, the plate and the moment.

In the kitchen, Raquel Carena follows instinct and season. In the dining room and cellar, Philippe Pinoteau keeps plates, bottles and conversations moving. That complementarity gives Le Baratin its singular character.

Le Baratin stands on rue Jouye-Rouve, a few steps from Parc de Belleville and rue de Belleville. A popular, lively, uneven and plural neighbourhood — perfectly matched to the spirit of the house.
08
Le Baratin is regularly recommended by restaurant guides, hospitality professionals and wine lovers. Its influence comes less from announcements than from nearly four decades of cooking, bottles and loyalty to a certain idea of the bistro. For decades, Le Baratin has drawn regulars, cooks, wine lovers and visitors from around the world to Belleville.
